How to actually read a chapterwise performance report

An overall test percentage answers one question: how did this attempt go. A chapterwise breakdown answers a more useful one: which specific topic, inside that subject, is actually costing marks, and that second question is the one that tells a student or parent what to do differently next week.

A student scoring 70% overall could be evenly weak across every topic, or could be scoring 95% on six topics and 20% on one. Those are completely different situations that call for completely different next steps, and a single overall percentage cannot distinguish between them.

The useful habit is to treat any topic scoring meaningfully below the subject's own average as the actual priority for the next study session, regardless of how strong the overall subject score looks. A strong subject average can hide exactly the one gap that a board exam question is most likely to target directly.

Equally, a topic that has climbed steadily across three consecutive tests, even if it's not yet the strongest topic in the subject, is evidence that the current study approach for that topic is working, which is worth noticing and repeating elsewhere, not just chasing the next weak spot.
